Tanyo Ravicz was born in Mexico City and grew up in California, the son of anthropologists. He graduated from Harvard University in 1984, and after living on the East Coast and in Europe he settled in Alaska, where he worked in wildland firefighting, fish processing, education and other fields. He moved back to California, and in the summers he returns to his homestead on Alaska’s Kodiak Island. His books include Alaskans, a collection of his short fiction, and the novel A Man of His Village, which recounts the odyssey of a migrant farm worker from Mexico to Alaska. Ravicz’s writing has appeared in a range of journals. He is currently working on companion books, fiction and nonfiction, that emerge from his years in the Far North. His website is www.tanyo.net.
